What To Expect
What to expect from a Farrier….
With Sport Horse Farrier you should expect for
you and your horse to be treated with the utmost
respect. We like to have a good time as much as
the next guy and I am sure you will find this
out about us, but you can feel comfortable in
knowing when it comes to your horses foot health
we are dead serious. With us you will find a
very approachable Farrier. By this I mean feel
free to ask questions it will behoove any horse
owner to know why Farriers do certain things. It
is our belief that all horse owners need to know
what is going on with the horse that they own.
You can also expect that we will do continuing
education. In the Farrier industry they have
many sponsors that put on continuing education
classes and why a Farrier would not take
advantage of this service is beyond us. I once
herd a Farrier say “If in five years you are
doing the same thing your doing today you are
not evolving as a Farrier” I thought that
statement to be very true. With the science and
studies that are being done in the equine
industry today there are new things being brought
to the forefront all the time. The client should
expect fare pricing. We do expect to make a
living, but we will and do run sport horse
Farrier like a business. We are watching our
overhead and supply cost on a regular basis so
that we can pass fair pricing along to the
client.
What we expect from the horse owner
I think we can all agree that a Farriers job is
a hard one and with that being said as a Farrier
we expect some things of the client. A clean and
safe work area is a must. Although I like to
work on concrete floors we do know this is not
feasible some of the time. A area with proper
lighting is a must. Prompt payment is a
absolute. We keep a well stocked trailer at all
times, but we can not stock everything all the
time. We have to buy supplies on a regular basis
and to do this we expect prompt payment. We also
expect you to be reasonable in your request, by
this we mean that we are not miracle workers,
voodoo men or doctors of veterinary medicine.
Sometimes horses are limited in there athletic
abilities. The most important thing we will
expect from our clients is a horse that is broke
to stand for the Farrier. I have zero desire to
be hurt by a ill broke horse, any Farrier that
will climb under a ill broke horse and take a
chance of getting hurt and loosing time and
money is foolish at best. Any client that would
expect a Farrier to work on a unbroken horse has
no respect for that Farrier or his family.
